Education and Experience: Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin and certified as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or Clinical Nurse Specialist by a national credentialing organization/association, approved by the Board of Nursing, is required. Advanced Practice Nurses must have completed specialized training and an internship in Pharmacology and must have been granted a certificate to independently issue prescription orders under s.441.16 (2), Wisconsin Statutes. For advanced practice nurse prescribers located in the Office of the Sheriff: Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or by the National Certification Corporation in Obstetric/Gynecology or Womens Health as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the advanced principles and practices of nursing and patient care; skill in patient assessment, nursing diagnosis and planning and evaluation; skill in preparing technical and special reports; ability to use sound judgment in making independent decisions; ability to follow and give instructions; ability to serve as a role model and preceptor for nursing and other health care students; ability to collaborate with physicians and other health professionals regarding patient care; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with patients, physicians, health professionals and others. Duties: Under general direction and medical staff policies and procedures, to direct and coordinate medical care to assigned patients; to perform and document physical examinations; to obtain and document patient health history; to order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests; to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs; to formulate a nursing diagnosis and health care plan based on the patient's condition; to submit health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by the physician; to prescribe and administer medications, treatments and immunizations as necessary according to policies and procedures; to provide health education to patients and their families; to participate in quality assurance and staff development activities; to assist in formulating policies and procedures; to participate in research activities and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.
